Bio
Darren Giles has been an integral part of the House Music scene for over 35 years both in the UK and beyond. Whether it be as a DJ, Producer or as a Broadcaster on the Radio, he has surfed the waves of musical trends but always returned to his one true love; Funky, Soulful, and Disco-infused House.
Darren has had major success with numerous labels over the years with his own productions and remixes of other artists’ work plus collaborations with some of the hottest names in the House Music scene today. He is often found working on the keys on his original productions in his own Disco Kid Studios, or immersing himself in the remix process with labels such as Duffnote, Soulfuric, Reelhouse Records, Silocasa and Midnight Riot.
He has always travelled the globe to broaden his experiences and support his palette of artistic achievements. Most notably to Australia where his musical knowledge and skills underpinned his far-reaching sets, introducing the land down under to a whole new way to consume a DJ’s skills. Supporting such luminaries as Michael Gray, Full Intention, Miguel Migs at the legendary Café Del Mar, he has also worked with his peers including Richard Earnshaw (Duffnote), Brian Tappert (Soulfuric/Traxsource), Jazz-N-Groove, John ‘Julius’ Knight, Grant Nelson, Dave Lee (Joey Negro), Yam Who? and Todd Edwards to name a few. From the intimate live performances to the maxxed out clubs, Darren can bring the goods to the booth and sell them back to the dance floor.
His assured DJ capabilities lend themselves perfectly to the production space and are reflected in his three most recent releases, ‘Take Me’, ’Love Me Like This’, ‘Don’t Turn Your Back On Love’ and ‘Imagination’. Weaving a rich story of sentimental grooves sustained with vocal flourishes that sooth the soul, all tracks achieved critical and commercial success as they tapped into all the infectious sensibilities that such a career has absorbed.
Having worked in radio for all of his career, also enabled Darren to re-enter the broadcast industry as a weekly presenter at a global and national level with the world’s number one House Music station, Mi-Soul Radio. Following his stint on Mi-Soul Darren now has two monthly radio shows, one on the legendary Street Sounds Radio where he splits the show in two delving back into his original love of 70’s and 80’s disco, funk and boogie whilst bringing it back to present day nu-disco, re-works, edits and house. His other show on the growing Vocal Booth Radio platform concentrates on nu-disco, edits, 4/4 house and deep house vibes whilst also concentrating on his production and dj’ing whilst still doing guest mixes for radio stations globally. His style of soulful disco house, nu-disco and edits all the way through to prime time beats further cemented his reputation as a premium music selector with exquisite taste.
To move forward in any industry, visionary artists need to have an innate understanding of the past, whilst also casting an eye to all the future possibilities. Through his lived experience of the scene, the DJs, the music, and the precious tapestry of his own story, Darren is delivering his own twist on the dawn of new production possibilities. He is releasing music on his own terms, fuelled by his own ambition and free from the chains of other people’s expectations
